ELLIPSE TOOL
In
Photoshop, the Ellipse Tool is a versatile tool used for creating ellipses and
circles. Here's a brief definition and overview of its uses:
Definition:
The
Ellipse Tool in Photoshop allows users to draw ellipses and circles by clicking
and dragging the mouse. It's part of the Shape tools in the toolbar and is
represented by an icon that looks like a circle. You can find it by pressing
'U' on your keyboard to cycle through the Shape tools or by right-clicking on
the Rectangle Tool and selecting the Ellipse Tool from the dropdown.
Uses:
1.
Drawing Ellipses & Circles:
Select
the Ellipse Tool, click and drag on the canvas while holding down the mouse
button to draw an ellipse. Hold down the Shift key to constrain it into a
perfect circle.
2.
Creating Custom Shapes:
The
Ellipse Tool is not limited to drawing perfect circles; you can create ellipses
with different proportions by dragging at various angles.
3.
Design Elements:
It is
commonly used in graphic design to create decorative elements, such as borders,
buttons, or badges.
4.
Masking & Clipping:
Ellipses
can be used as masks or clipping paths. You can use them to reveal or hide
parts of an image or layer.
5.
Adding Effects:
Apply
layer styles, such as gradients or strokes, to the ellipses to add visual
effects and depth to your design.
6.
Logo Design:
Designers
often use the Ellipse Tool to create circular or elliptical elements in logos.
7.
Selection:
The
Ellipse Tool can be used to make elliptical selections. Once a selection is
made, you can manipulate, edit, or apply changes within the selected area.
8.
Vector Shapes:
When
drawing with the Ellipse Tool, you are creating vector shapes, which means they
can be scaled up or down without losing quality.
How to Use:
1.
Select the Ellipse Tool:
Choose
the Ellipse Tool from the toolbar,
2.
Set Options:
Adjust
the options in the top toolbar, such as fill color, stroke color, and stroke
width.

perfect circle.
4.
Modify Shape:
After
drawing, you can still modify the shape by selecting the Move Tool (V) and
adjusting the control handles.
The
Ellipse Tool is a valuable tool for various design tasks, providing flexibility
and precision when working with elliptical shapes in Photoshop.
POLYGON TOOL
As of my
last knowledge update in January 2022, Photoshop is primarily a raster graphics
editing software, and it doesn't have a specific "Polygon tool" as a
standalone tool. However, Photoshop does have a Polygonal Lasso tool that allows
you to create selections in a polygonal shape.
Here's a brief overview of the Polygonal
Lasso tool:
Polygonal Lasso
Tool:
Definition:
The
Polygonal Lasso tool is a selection tool in Adobe Photoshop that allows you to
make straight-sided polygonal selections. You click to create anchor points,
and straight line segments are drawn between these points. The selection is
closed automatically when you click on the starting point, or you can press
Enter/Return to close the selection manually.
Uses:
1.
Selections:
The
primary purpose of the Polygonal Lasso tool is to make precise selections in
the shape of polygons. This is useful when you need to select objects with
straight edges or create a custom-shaped selection.
2.
Editing:
After
making a selection, you can perform various operations on the selected area,
such as copying, cutting, pasting, or applying adjustments.
3.
Masking:
Selections
created with the Polygonal Lasso tool can be used to create layer masks. Layer
masks are essential for non-destructive editing and blending images seamlessly.
4.
Creating Shapes:
Although
not a dedicated shape creation tool, you can use the Polygonal Lasso tool to
create custom shapes by making a selection and filling it with color or applying
other effects.
How to Use:
1.
Select
the Polygonal Lasso tool from the toolbar (shortcut: L).
2.
Click to
create the starting point.
3.
Continue
clicking to create straight line segments.
4.
To close
the selection, either click on the starting point or press Enter/Return.
Keep in
mind that Adobe may introduce new features or tools in Photoshop, so it's a
good idea to check the latest documentation or release notes for any updates or
changes after my last knowledge update in January 2022.
